Senior Controller

 

Our client, a recognized leader in the general contracting space, is seeking a Senior Controller for their newest office location in Westchester County. This in-office position will be responsible for all accounting-related activities and the oversight of the accounting team.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a growing company with a strong track record of year-over-year (YoY) growth. Take the lead in implementing financial strategy, optimizing processes, and helping shape the structure of an expanding accounting team. The ideal candidate will bring a strategic mindset and leadership skills to enhance financial operations and support company growth, with experience in the fast-paced construction or development sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee financial projections and participate in the development of specific financial profit and growth objectives for the short and long term.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the operating budget, covering current and projected revenue, direct and overhead expenses, profits, and return on investment, with supporting analysis.
  • Generate accurate and timely year-to-date financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow projections, and job cost reports) on a monthly or as-needed basis.
  • Implement accounting and reporting procedures to ensure soundness, timeliness, and accuracy of all financial and management information. Ensure proper controls are in place and approve all changes to established procedures, systems, and routines.
  • Monitor cash flow requirements at both the project and corporate levels.
  • Maintain appropriate business relationships with bankers, auditors, attorneys, and insurers.
  • Partner with Human Resources to hire, develop, motivate, and review all aligned team members.
  • Provide leadership and support to the accounting team, ensuring a high level of competency is developed and maintained through training and attendance at educational programs.
  • Conduct performance reviews and recommend salaries and salary adjustments for the accounting team.
  • Play a pivotal role in process improvements, implementing best practices, and optimizing financial operations to support the company’s long-term growth.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a closely related field; CPA preferred.
  • Prior construction industry experience and knowledge required.
  • 8+ years of progressive related experience.
  • Strong ability to prepare and interpret financial statements and reports to solve management and accounting issues.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented approach with the ability to draw conclusions from reporting and find solutions.
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Software Systems Knowledge: Strong Microsoft Excel skills required. Experience with Sage, Timberscan, Procore, and GC Pay preferred.
